The team
Racing together.
We are the Scuderia Mensa – the racing team of RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. Founded in 2006, we have been taking part in the Formula Student competitions in various European countries with a new racing car every year since 2008. As students from different disciplines, we work together every year to develop, build and improve our formula racing car, to market the team and to attract new sponsors and supporters from the business world.

Ambition and passion
Our team of 30-50 students from various degree programs at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences each year consists of young people with a lot of motivation, passion and innovative ideas who put their theoretical knowledge from their studies into practice in their free time. The team is set up as realistically as possible in a company structure with different departments that work closely together.
Thanks to the active support of many companies and volunteers, we are able to put the skills we learned in theory at the university into practice and build a high-performance vehicle. It is not only important for us to compete with other universities and colleges worldwide, but also to present and represent the companies that support us.
The team
The constant change of our team through changing members is an important part of Scuderia Mensa and our success. A new team comes together every year – due to students starting, graduating and starting their careers. The resulting dynamic is both a challenge and a success factor for our team. New faces bring new skills and ideas and each team learns from the knowledge of the previous team. We are particularly proud of our Team Consultants, former members who continue to support our team and provide valuable tips. Together we give our best – every year anew.
Team leadership
The management is responsible for the overall project. Its tasks include coordinating the individual departments, external representation, overall organization and managing the finances and the team. The students in this department have been part of the team for a long time and have shown particular commitment and prudence.
Mechanics
The Mechanics department covers a large and important part of the race car with disciplines such as Body & Aerodynamics, Suspension and Simulation. Students in the Mechanics department are responsible for the production of the hardware and work closely together to build the many individual components of a high-performance vehicle. They are in close contact with the Electrics department.
Simulation & Controls
The Simulation & Controls department develops and uses vehicle models and vehicle dynamics simulations to analyze and optimize the racing car’s handling. Through targeted data evaluation, simulations are compared with real measurement data and continuously improved. In this way, we support data-based development decisions and increase the overall performance of the vehicle.
Electrics
The Electrics department works in both the high-voltage and low-voltage areas. The accumulator, motor controllers and inverters for our new electric drive are developed here. The department is also in contact with almost every component, whether it’s the power supply, control or validation. They manufacture and plan the wiring harness, take care of data acquisition and evaluation and develop PCBs and cases based on design specifications.
Business & Media
The Business and Media department draws up the business plan and presents this theoretical marketing strategy for the racing car at the various events. It also takes care of sponsor acquisition and maintenance, offline and online marketing and the planning of all events. This department consists of students of industrial engineering, business administration, communication design and media management.

Our Team Consultants are former members of Scuderia Mensa who provide us with advice and support and continue to do so. They have many years of experience in various departments of the team and are an important part of our work.

Body & Aerodynamics
The vehicle chassis and the aero package of the racing car are created in the Body department. The full carbon monocoque serves as the supporting element for all other components of the car. But they also develop the seat, the battery housing and important safety components, such as the crash box. They also focus a lot on downforce and fluid simulation when developing and manufacturing the vehicle’s aero package.

Suspension
Tire behavior, chassis design and driving dynamics – the Suspension department deals with these topics. They also design a two-part brake force system, the steering gear and the kinematics. They work a lot with CAD, CAE and ADAMS simulations.
Driverless
The Driverless department is working on an autonomous system for future Scuderia Mensa racing cars. The main tasks include environment recognition, actuator technology and driving dynamics control.

Driverless

High Voltage
The members of the High Voltage department are working on the development of the formula car. They are responsible for concept development, the accumulator, the BMS and the electric drivetrain.
